Radiation Encapsulation

NPRRC-20 is used to encapsulate radioactive particles and reduce personnel exposure to airborne radioactive particulate during nuclear reactor cavity maintenance.

NPRRC-20 - Nuclear Power Radiation Reduction Coating, developed by Sonotech is a cellulose based coating used to spray on reactor walls to contain radioactive particulate. The product is intended to minimize exposure to airborne radioactive particulate during ultrasound inspection of the reactors.

NPRRC-20 is a water based, water soluble and dilutable radioactive particulate encapsulant. NPRRC-20 can be diluted up to 10:1 with water and applied to radiation contaminated machinery and reactor cavities. It can be applied by spraying with a garden or paint sprayer, by hose sprayer, or by paint brush or broom. The temperature operating range of NPRRC-20 is 40º to 170º F (4.4º to 76.6º C).

After drying, the film that is formed effectively encapsulates radioactive particulate in place. Sonotech's NPRRC is a low contaminant coating that in most applications does not require removal.
